See Africa is Calling Home Page.
The first habitants of Rwanda were the Twa, pygmoids. They lived in forest and they were scattered.
The second were Hutu, Bantu. They came probably from the mountains of Cameroon. They conquered the Twa and established many unorganized kingdoms. Twa [are] 1% and Hutu [are} 85% of [the population of] Rwanda.
The last one [was] Tutsi, from the north, especially in Ethiopia. They're believed to be Hamite. They came and established a feudal kingdom and created one sole kingdom countrywide. They conquered all Hutus. Hutu would serve a Tutsi. All the Hutu kingdoms were conquered easily, and that's why you saw that the first Congo war was easy for Tutsi to ouster Mobutu because Tutsi were always feared.
The colonialists came and said that Hutu are lazy, fools, and that Tutsi are semi white and wise. They only allowed Tutsis to go in classes. That caused some Hutus to revolt in '59 and caused many Tutsis to flee the country. They alleged them to enslave [Hutus] in kingdoms, and so they wanted revenge. [It] fully took place in '94.
