God gave Pastor Steve Driessen (pronounced "DREE-sen") a vision that resulted in the name of our church--The River.
A wide river, with a ship traveling on it, moving with the flow of the river, the ship is like a large wooden warship, but without mast/sails. In the bow is a man in a long, off-white robe, holding the office of prophet. He points the way. A man at the stern is wearing a uniform and operating the rudder. He holds the office of apostle. In the ship are the pastor, the evangelist, and the teacher.
The evangelist wants to save all, including the rock in the river that they are navigating around. The teacher wants to teach all, including the rock. The pastor wants to calm everyone's hearts.
Other ships had gone before. When they got to the tricky part of the river, they ran aground. Instead of attempting to unground their ships, each group dismantled their ship and built a fortress.
We need to get in the river, stay in the river, and flow in it.
